Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a small community that lies on this part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. For those who don't know, the West Island often think that it's a distinct island that lies west of Montreal however, the West Island is home to anything and everything that is found in Lachine west to the Lachine city. Lachine west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to dance but a growth spurt meant that she outgrew the dancers she was with. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was six feet and one inch tall. After I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. In Brugel's case, it was her encouragement from the drama instructor at her high school, which prompted her to begin acting. The teacher was the one who advised her to audition as Anne in their annual school production. The student tried it out, and eventually got the lead in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated on the 20th of January, 2000. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Since then, for the more than 20 years since then, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 plays on the small and big screens receiving the greatest attention when she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor during the season 1 of the series, and not seen much.
